Welcome to our second installment of Blog Content Saves The Day, a series showcasing the benefits of packing your blog with original, professional content. Today we’re going to talk inventory - specifically, your rare and oddball inventory.

It’s a sure thing that at some point this year, your store’s going to be given the keys to a car that just isn’t right for your clientele or your market. Whether it’s a high-performance version of a new car that’s a bit too rich for your customers’ blood, or an off-brand trade that has no place on your front line, you’re going to be stuck with a hunk of metal that just takes up real estate until you swap it out or send it to auction.

Your DealerDex Blog can solve this problem in the same way eBay solves the problem: by catapulting your inventory to a national spotlight, where your vehicle is no longer bound by the economy and geography of your local market. In a national arena, two-wheel drive SUVs are no problem, $50,000 MINI Coopers can be appreciated, and twenty-year-old imports will find a buyer in no time.

But your blog goes one step further. Listings on eBay often turn rare vehicles into dime-a-dozen entries, as most dealers and private sellers make eBay their first stop when selling a rare vehicle. Instead, consider writing up a blog post discussing the car, complete with photos and plenty of well-placed keywords. In doing so, you could easily get your vehicle listed in search engine results - where there’s not so much competition for individual vehicles. Plus, you’ll start to snag users who may not directly be in the market, but can lead you to people who are.

I had this experience myself when trying to get rid of a rare 2003 SL500 that was sitting on a Dodge lot. By putting together an article showcasing the rarity of the car, my blog began to show up on the first page of Google for tons of related queries, for example:

  • sl500 for sale
  • rare sl500
  • rare mercedes benz for sale
  • diamond silver sl500
  • berry red sl500

Remember, these are nationwide queries that my blog is showing up for. At the end of the day, that effort resulted in a lead generated from the customer’s brother, who had been screwing around on Google looking for SL500s on his sibling’s behalf. They lived nearly 200 miles away.

Just another example of blog content solving problems for dealers.
